The Midlands of South Carolina have experienced unprecedented rainfall and catastrophic flooding. Many have lost homes, possessions and livelihoods, and some have lost their lives. Our prayers are with all those who have suffered loss, those who are still in danger, and especially with the rescue workers and emergency response teams who are risking their safety to secure that of others. Please keep our community and those who have come in to offer aid in your prayers.
Although the full extent of this disaster is not yet realized, it’s time to spring into action. First, make sure your neighbors are safe, especially the elderly or vulnerable. Then, here are other ways you can help:
- Give: Mt. Horeb will be collecting gift cards to distribute to those in need. Consider purchasing cards for local grocery stores and retail outlets, especially ones that are confirmed to be open and are accessible to those in flooded areas. Bring cards to the office, or put them in the offering plate on Sunday.
- Donate: ELCA Disaster Response is currently taking donations to assist SC Flood victims. 100% of your donation will go toward the disaster response efforts. Donate here.
- Volunteer: If you are safe and well, consider giving your time and effort to the flood victims by volunteering with the American Red Cross. Contact our local volunteer corps here.
Thank you for being a part of the response to this devastating event. It’s time to put into action our motto: “God’s Work. Our Hands.”
