Pastor Ralph Hill and his wife, Cindy, have two children Andrew and Jenna. He graduated from University of South Carolina in 1985 with a degree in biology, and from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1990 with a Master of Divinity. Pastor Hill accepted the call to come to Mt. Horeb in 2002. Prior to that, he served two congregations: St. John’s Lutheran Church (Lexington, S.C.) and Grace Lutheran Church (Hendersonville, N.C.). His wife, Cindy, is a Guidance Counselor at Forts Pond Elementary School in Pelion, SC. Pastor Hill enjoys the outdoors and regular camping trips with his family, including their favorites… the Smokey Mountains, Pisgah Forest, the Florida Keys, and several state and national parks. About Mt. Horeb’s vision, Experiencing and Sharing God’s Presence, Pastor Hill says, “I believe that church is not just a place to worship God, but it is also a body to which we belong through which we as individuals and as a church - become God’s love in flesh to the world. We hear and know God’s care and compassion for us, and we respond by being care and compassion in the world around us.”
Pastor Gillikin came to Mt. Horeb from North Carolina in October 2006. He previously served two congregations: St. John’s Lutheran Church in Asheboro N.C. (1994-2000) and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain (2000-2006). He is a 1985 graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana; he completed the Masters of Divinity degree program at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and was ordained in 1994. Pastor Gillikin enjoys spending time with his family -- his wife, Margaret, and two children, Meghan and Lindsay. He enjoys jogging, boating, bluegrass music and various sports. Pastor Gillikin’s passions in ministry are the “Passing on Faith” initiative of nurturing faith in the home, small group ministry and outreach, leading pre-school chapel time, leading worship and communion at rursing/retirement homes, making home visits to shut-ins, and establishing mentor/coach relationships with youth.
Amy Gunwall has been Director of Music at Mount Horeb since 2007. In addition to playing for weekly church services, Amy directs two adult choirs, two children’s choirs and two hand bell choirs.
Ashley came to Mount Horeb straight out of Seminary. She grew up in Rock Hill, S.C. and is a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting. She earned a Master of Arts in religion with concentrations in Christian education and congregational ministry from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Ashley and her husband, David, live in Irmo with their three pets. A native of Virginia, David is web developer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of S.C. David also is very involved with the music here at Mount Horeb as a member of the praise band.
Gayle has been a fixture in the Mt. Horeb office since November 1980. She is a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School and is a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Little Mountain, S.C. Gayle loves the members and staff here and considers Mt. Horeb her second church family. Gayle has three sons and enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Her hobbies reading and traveling.
Susan Boland has served the Mt. Horeb family as Administrative Assistant since 1999. Susan is married to Kim (KB) and they have one son, Drew. Susan enjoys using her free time for Bible study, reading and spending time with her family.
For nine years Peggy taught three-year-olds at the Mt. Horeb Preschool, and just recently became the Preschool Director. Peggy is married to Furman and has three sons. Her favorite Bible verse is from Psalms 127: “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a real blessing.”
