Susan Ritchey has lived in the Columbia/Irmo area since the age of ten. After graduating from Irmo High School, she enrolled as a music major at the University of South Carolina and later completed her Master in Choral Music Education. The piano is her primary instrument with voice as her secondary instrument. During her post graduate work, Susan studied both the harpsichord and organ.
Susan has been directing church choirs since she was a 17 year old college freshman; She directed choirs at Union Methodist Church and served for ten years as the music director at Grace Methodist Church. As a music teacher for School District Five of Lexington/Richland Counties, Susan taught general music classes and chorus for 28 years.
Susan is married to Joe Ritchey. Joe is a social worker/counselor and an adjunct USC professor. They have two grown daughters, Aidan and Emily, and a greyhound named Trent. When Susan has time, she enjoys reading, shopping, Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, genealogy, and watching old TV shows and movies.
