New to town? Welcome to Chapin, SC, one of 14 municipalities in Lexington County. Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church is located in a community in downtown Chapin, in the center of our state. Our community is home to every amenity you’d expect of a major metropolitan area, not to mention a spectacular 50,000 acre lake. We're also just a couple of hours from South Carolina's world-famous beaches and the serenity of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Getting to either area is no problem. Three interstate highways intersect nearby — I-20, I-26 and I-77, with I-85 and I-95 just an hour's drive away.

More than 583,000 people call the Columbia/Chapin/Lexington area their home, a number expected to increase to 650,000 by the year 2010, and to one million by 2025. According to the Census Bureau, 50.4% of the population here is male, 49.6% is female. The median age is 33 years. The most recent Central Midlands Council of Governments Demographic Summary Report indicates that within a five-mile radius around Chapin, there was a population of 11,351 in 2001. Within a 15-mile ring, the population was 125,765 in 2001. Median household income was $55,661 within five miles and $53,290 within 15 miles.

Chapin is a "hot spot" for residential and commercial development, due in part not only because of its location and home-town atmosphere, but also because of the outstanding school district that incorporates Chapin schools. In the 2007-08 school year, district students earned the highest average score on the SAT in the state.

We've included these local links for your convenience. If you have questions about our town, feel free to call the church office anytime (803-345-2000) for additional helpful information.

Thanks for stopping by our Web site. We would love to hear from you before you go. Also, if there is any further information you require, please call me anytime. (803) 345-2000. Thanks. —Pastor Hill
