“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a real blessing.” — Psalms 127:3
Mt. Horeb Preschool is taking a hiatus during the 2021-2022 school year due to complications related to the Pandemic. A Preschool Task Force has been formed to help evaluate our current situation and provide next steps.
Pre-Pandemic: The Mt. Horeb Preschool serves the church family and surrounding community by offering a quality child development program for children ages two through four. Our outstanding program features…
- Half-day program hours from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., five days per week
- Christian environment
- Developmentally-appropriate curriculum
- Convenient location in downtown Chapin
- Safe, bright and attractive classrooms and playground areas
The Mt. Horeb learning environment is rich, varied, warm, stimulating and safe for a young child’s healthy development. Teachers use The Creative Curriculum for Preschoolers, a developmentally appropriate, whole language, thematic approach to preschool education. Each classroom is arranged by interest areas, creatively organized to foster growth, imagination, creativity and independence. Activities are planned through centers which include language, math, science and art activities. 4K students will be introduced to our new curriculum called “Get Set for School,” part of the Handwriting Without Tears program.
Once a week, children enjoy a 30-minute music class, and our pastors leads chapel time every Wednesday morning. Other special activities include a Preschool Art Show, Holiday Music Program, Preschool Sunday at the church.
Two-year-olds attend either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Three-year-olds have the option of attending three days (M/T/W) or four days (M-Th). Four-year-olds have the option of attending four days (M-Th) or five days (M-F).
Regular preschool hours are Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., but those enrolled in the Early Bird program may arrive in the morning at 8 a.m. Three- and four-year-olds may bring a lunch and join the Lunch Bunch, staying at the preschool until 2 p.m.
Peggy Miller retired as our Preschool Director in 2020. Peggy has been a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church since 1994 and has been a Sunday School teacher at the church for more than 20 years. For nine years before becoming Preschool Director, Peggy taught the three-year-old preschool class at Mt. Horeb.
We are not giving personal tours at this time of our preschool facilities but hope to be able to open again in the near future. At that time, you can reserve a place for your child by calling 345-6441 or e-mailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
