Core Value: Serve
Mt. Horeb has a long legacy of serving others in our community and in our world. We believe that we are all called to share what has first been given to us with others, especially those in need. We uphold the dignity of all people and all of God’s creation, and we week to live out that belief in acts of service to others. If you are a believer, ask God how he can use you to spread the love of Christ through acts of compassion. Below are some of the ways we at Mt. Horeb seek to serve others.
How to Get Involved
Participate Mission Support
This congregation has a robust Mission Fund which is used to send aid abroad as well as to mobilize missionaries for God’s work with our hands. We support missionaries in Japan, send our own members to places like Guyana and Costa Rica for hands-on mission work, provide mosquito nets for malaria, and participate in local and regional mission trips. We also host ongoing projects like Fair Trade products and cartridge recycling for World Hunger. To help support these ministries, check the calendar for fundraising events, or make a donation to Mt. Horeb’s Global Mission Fund.
Go on a Mission Trip
We seek to prayerfully and actively respond to needs that arise in places near and far. Our Global Missions team organizes and sends groups to participate in international and nationwide mission trips. Past trips have included building a church in Guyana, disaster response in Alabama, and Habitat International in Costa Rica. Our youth group also participates in mission trips and in service projects involved in the National Youth Gathering.
Serve the Needs of the Community
Mt. Horeb is involved in community support ministries in a variety of ways, extending care to those in times of need in our own congregation, in our community and abroad. Ways that we serve those within our faith family include visiting and sending cards and seasonal bags to the elderly, homebound and those experiencing significant life passages, providing meals for the bereaved, and providing vaccinations, health screenings and education for our community members. In addition to congregational support, we serve those in need in our community in a variety of ways. If you would like to help out with our ministries to the local food bank, housing repair projects, or helping with ministry to the elderly and homebound in the community, please contact the church office at (803) 345-2000.
